I barely escaped the fire.
I followed a police officer’s order to evacuate and unknowingly left a neighbor to die. I saw the fire fighters holding limp hoses. I drove through pitch black smoke and under the flames spreading across the street. I was in the smoke for 40 minutes.
Two days later I walked into the crime scene to see the remains of my apartment to get closure. I saw and smelled the utter destruction and strange patterns. I’ve thought about the timeline and the narrative being repeated.
I’ve observed and interacted the fire and police employees and National Guard soldiers in the days and weeks after the devastation .
I’m friends with school teachers.
I’ve been interacting with the Red Cross for nearly three weeks.
Ive looked at maps and burn patterns. I’ve been watching videos and reading articles and stories. I’ve talked with many first hand witnesses.
What do you wanna know?
I'm so glad you are posting on Substack. I have music books to send. The street is Kelawea, right? I don't have any particular questions because I am still trying to wrap my head around what happened. I guess you are too!
Do the people of Lahaina believe the official narrative or are they suspicious?
Also, there are lots of substacks covering what happened--you might also want to post in the comments over there (Sage Hana, Reinette Senum)
